Denise Scarborough drowned after entering the water in Dymchurch on Thursday, August 26.
An inquest opening at County Hall heard the 60-year-old had been at the beach with her family when tragedy struck.
The court heard that after going into the water to "reach her grandchild", the retired security guard was pulled from the water, unresponsive.
