The family of a 68-year-old man whose body was found after he went missing have thanked volunteers and the emergency services for their help.

Police, rescue teams, the coastguard and members of the public had been scouring Romney Marsh in search of Wayne Leppard after he went missing on Friday, September 3.

He was last seen in the Pleasance Road area of Lydd-on-Sea at 10am that day.

Over the weekend pictures showed officers combing the coastlines and searching the shingle landscape for any signs of the pensioner.

Sadly, police confirmed earlier this week a body had been found on the Marsh, and that Mr Leppard's family had been informed.

Daughter Sam Leppard has thanked every person involved in helping look for her father.

She said: "To the amazing human beings of the Marsh and beyond that helped us in our desperate search for my Dad.

"There isn't a thank you big enough for all of your help in our search to bring my Dad home. If love and support could've brought him home he would have lived forever.

"Thank you to the incredible Kent Police, search and rescue, teams, the coastguard and The RNLI that never once gave in on bringing my Dad home.

"Thank you from the bottom of our broken hearts."

Police confirmed no suspicious circumstances have been identified and a report is being prepared for the coroner.
