House struck by lightning near New Romney

A house near New Romney was struck by lightning last night, which caused holes in the roof of the property.

Fire crews (KFRS) attended the house in Alfred Road, Greatstone at around 11.30pm.

The residents had heard a loud bang, they lost power and then saw smoke coming from the fuse box, so called KFRS.

Two fire engines attended the incident, although there was no fire, and the crews temporarily covered the holes in the roof.

There were no reported injuries.

UK Power Networks also attended.

A spokeswoman said: "Our engineers swiftly responded to a request from the fire service to attend a property hit by lightning at 11.55pm last night. Staff attended to support the emergency services and complete safety checks.

"The incident did not interrupt electricity supplies in the area."
