Lifeboat crews carefully rescued a man suffering from back pain after they were called out to a vessel off Dungeness this afternoon.

The new Dungeness RNLI lifeboat The Morrell was on its 10th call-out since it was launched in March, when a man was reported injured at 1.30pm.

Four people, including the injured man, were on board the 10m Newhaven-registered boat.

Duty Coxswain Roger Gillett joined first aid-trained crew members on board.

He said: "The casualty was suffering from back injuries and required evacuation to hospital.

"Pain relief was administered to make him as comfortable as possible before he was put into a stretcher and transferred onto our RNLI lifeboat.

"Once transferred we slowly made our way back to the shore enabling our shore crew to stretcher the casualty to a waiting ambulance to be taken to a local hospital.”
