A town is plagued by speeding on its key roads, a councillor has warned.
And lorry drivers avoid police speed traps by warning each other on CB (citizens band) radio, Leonard Laws says.
He spoke out after colleagues discussed a site meeting for speeding problems at Robin Hood Lane, Lydd.
Cllr Laws told a town council meeting on Monday: “Robin Hood Lane has problems and so has Romney Road. Dungeness Road is like a nightmare and so is Jurys Gap Road.
“if you’re going to look at this, do the lot.”
Romney Road, Dungeness Road and Jurys Gap Road are three main entrances into the town of Lydd.
Cllr Laws said that as far backs as 2004 traffic monitoring on Romney Road found that 96% of vehicles were speeding and one was found to be going at 78mph.
The B2075 Romney Road, as a single carriageway outside a built-up area, has a speed limit of 60mph.
He added: “When there are speed traps lorry drivers warn each other on CB.”
Town councillors agreed to go ahead with the site visit to Robin Hood Lane, having received a letter from residents detailing problems also including the poor condition of the road.
Police have also told of problems on that road and last month town PCSO Michael Robinson said that speed watches were carried out after complaints from locals.
