A deer head with its antlers sawn off was found washed up on a beach.

Graham Wicking stumbled across the grisly sight as he was walking his dogs at Greatstone beach, on Romney Marsh, last night.

The New Romney resident said he was shocked to see the head, which was still attached to a bit of skin from the animal's body.

"I was walking the dogs last night and strangely saw just a deer's head attached to a long piece of skin," he said.

"A fisherman told me he has seen deers swimming in the bay before.

"I'm used to seeing seals and porpoises dead on beach, maybe due to fishing nets, but this unusual.

"My guess is that it may have got caught in a propeller after being dumped, or drowned by swimming."

The 56-year-old railway worker says the creature's antlers had been severed off.

He added: "Interestingly though, the antlers had been removed by a saw. You could tell by the markings.

"This makes me think it could have been a farmed animal."

Previously on the Marsh, severed fish heads were found along the beach, leaving the stones covered in blood.

The huge collection of mackerel heads were discarded at Dungeness.

It is believed that the decapitated tiddlers were discarded by anglers who may have cooked the 'middle' parts on a BBQ on the beach.
