A sinkhole has closed a main road for 11 days while emergency repairs go ahead.

St Mary’s Road in Dymchurch is closed in both directions after the hole appeared in the road, near the railway track, yesterday.

Kent County Council (KCC) issued the road warning on its interactive map, which labelled the severity of the incident as high.

It is thought a burst sewer pipe caused the damage and now Cappagh Browne Utilities Ltd on behalf of Southern Water will repair the underground network.

The road is closed between the junctions of Jefferstone Lane and Dunkirk Close.
KCC has advised that motorists go via Dymchurch Road, Jefferstone Lane, to St Mary’s Road and vice versa to get around the closure.

Southern Water has been approached for a comment.
