Lydd boss Mickey Doyle has called on his side to eliminate costly errors as they look to get their promotion push back on track.

Town played well against Staplehurst last weekend - adapting to a new shape - but gifted the visitors two goals in a 3-1 defeat.

The mistakes overshadowed an otherwise positive performance.

“We were the better side,” said Doyle, whose side remain fifth in Southern Counties East Division 1.

“We created more chances than them, we just didn’t put the ball in the net.

“Performance-wise, I was really pleased.

“I liked the new shape, I liked the patterns of play - we just need to get rid of these silly mistakes.

“We do the stats, which showed we ran more, we were more aggressive, we sprinted more.

“The players are committed to the system, and watching the game back, there were plenty of positives.

“But we’ve gifted them their first two goals and we have to iron out those errors to push back up the table.”

Lydd, whose goal against Staplehurst came from Paldon Bepe, host bottom side Bermondsey at the Lindsey Field this Saturday (3pm).

The south Londoners have taken only four points from 14 games this season.

“We’ve just got to concentrate on ourselves,” said Doyle. “We can’t worry about the other team.

“Luckily we’re still in the mix and now we need to push on.

“We’ve not become a bad team overnight. Form is temporary, quality is permanent.

“We proved our quality at the start of the season and we need to get back to that.

“It will help when we get players back and give us more options to change things up.

“I like to run with a small squad - it’s easier to keep everyone happy - but it can hurt you sometimes when you have injuries and suspensions.”
