Lydd Town manager Mickey Doyle sees his side get the job done at Bermondsey

Mickey Doyle praised Lydd’s efficiency following their 2-0 win at Bermondsey.

Goals from Ryan Philpott and Luke Burdon - a 35-yard cracker - led Town to victory last weekend.

They remain third in Southern Counties East Division, four points behind Snodland and Larkfield & New Hythe, who are separated by goal difference.

“We were solid and efficient,” said manager Doyle.

“The performance was nothing to shout about or get carried away over but we needed three points and a clean sheet. It doesn’t have to be pretty.

“As long as we’re efficient and keep the back door shut, it doesn’t matter how the points come.

“Bermondsey are bottom but it’s never a nice place to go and they’ve picked up a bit in the last couple of games, drawing with Faversham Strike Force and Bridon Ropes.

“I thought Kenny Pogue played well and it was good to see Luke Burdon on the scoresheet again.

“He’s picked the ball up in the middle of their half, had time to turn, saw the keeper off his line a bit and planted it in the top corner. It was a great goal.”

Something has to give when Larkfield & New Hythe meet Snodland on Saturday, giving Lydd a chance to make up ground in the title race.

To do that, they need a result at play-off contenders FC Elmstead, with the sides meeting a couple of weeks on from a 1-1 draw at the Lindsey Field.

“We’ve just got to concentrate on ourselves,” said Doyle, with Lydd six points clear of their weekend opponents.

“The main thing is to put light between ourselves and Elmstead. We can’t afford to drop points.

“We’ve learnt a bit about them from the draw at our place and I’m sure they’ve learnt a bit about us.

“We have to knuckle down and if we play like we did in the second half that day, we’ll match anyone. I’m quite confident of that.”
