Former Dover manager Mitch Brundle has made a surprise playing return in Kent.
Midfielder Brundle, sacked by the National League South basement boys last month, has dropped down three divisions to put his boots on again to link up with ambitious Southern Counties East Premier Division team Lydd.
Writing on social media, new team-mate Calvin Sedenu wrote: “Welcome aboard, bud.”
The 29-year-old started for the Lydders - 10th in the table - on Saturday. They earned a 3-1 win against bottom team Stansfeld thanks to efforts by two-goal striker Dean Grant and a strike from Luke Burdon.
Brundle also counts Braintree, Gateshead and Dagenham & Redbridge among his other old clubs but he only made limited playing appearances during almost 10 months in charge of Dover.
Lydd’s next game is at home to fifth-placed Deal - 2-0 FA Vase victors over Cobham on Saturday - with nine points separating the teams ahead of Wednesday’s derby.
