Lydd Town out to banish memory of 8-0 defeat by Snodland as sides meet again
05:00, 02 December 2022
Lydd have a point to prove at league leaders Snodland as they look to banish the memories of an 8-0 hiding.
The sides meet again this Saturday (3pm), just two months on from that nightmare afternoon at the Lindsey Field for Mickey Doyle’s men.
Lydd were top of Southern Counties East Division 1 at the time, adding to the shock.
They’re third going into the return game after goals from Tyler Sterling - a 20-yard screamer - and Paldon Bepe in a 2-0 home win over bottom side Bermondsey last weekend.
The 8-0 is still fresh in Lydd’s minds and boss Doyle will use it to motivate his side.
“All the lads were hurting after that, me especially,” he said.
“It’s always going to be there when you’ve lost 8-0 and you’re playing them again.
“You want to make sure everyone sees it was a freak result or a misrepresentation of what we are as a team.
“It’s going to be in everyone’s minds - it’s only natural.
“We’ve got to make sure we right a few wrongs.
“We need to defend properly and attack properly, as units, and keep errors to a minimum.
“They’re a good side - they’re one of the favourites for the title with the budget they have - but I don’t expect to get done 8-0.
“I want us to go there and make them realise we’re still in this race.
“The main thing is I get a performance from the boys and we don’t let ourselves down. I believe we can compete against them.
“We did it against Hollands & Blair in the FA Vase, we beat Larkfield in the league and we’ve done it against other teams.
“They’re not to be feared, it’s just a challenge.
“We’ll do our homework, we’ll make sure the mindset’s right and we’ll be ready to go."
