Lydd Town go into their top-of-the-table game at Larkfield & New Hythe on Saturday in good form after a third straight victory.

While Snodland close in on the Southern Counties East Division 1 title, Lydd could yet pip the Larks to second place.

This weekend’s meeting will go a long way to deciding who finishes runners-up.

Lydd travel in good spirits after continuing their fine run with goals from ex-Larkfield striker Luke Burdon and Troy Howard in a 2-0 home win over Bridon Ropes last Saturday.

The Larks will have Danny Lye and Michael Phillips in charge for the first time after Kris Browning stood down following a 1-0 defeat at Staplehurst on Wednesday night.

It’s all set up for a good game as Lydd look to complete the double over their promotion rivals, having won 2-1 at the Lindsey Field at the start of the season.

“It should be a nice little run-out,” said boss Mickey Doyle, speaking before Larkfield's change of management.

“They’re an experienced side, an organised side.

“They’ve fallen off a bit but they know what they’ve got to do and they’ve signed a couple of players.

“We know roughly how they’ll set up and we’ll go there with a game plan to combat that.

“We’re a better side now than when we played them earlier in the season. Everyone evolves, don’t they?

"We’ve got a way of playing, everyone’s more settled and the squad’s a lot better.

“It makes such a difference when you can look at the bench and bring on players who can change a game.

“I’m not sure we’ve got a best XI. We’ve got a good 16 and they all complement each other, depending on the conditions and how we want to play, but even the lads on the fringes have done well.

“People are saying how many points do we need to be in the play-offs but if we just win our games it doesn’t matter, does it?

“That’s what we’ll try and do. If we could get second place that guarantees home advantage in both play-off games, if we got to the final, but it’s one game at a time. We just need to keep our momentum going.”

Lydd were good value for their win over Bridon after negotiating a tricky first half against the wind.

“We knew if we got in 0-0 at half-time we’d win the game,” said Doyle.

“The boys made sure we were level and we said at half-time now’s the time to put your foot to the floor and go after them.

“That’s what we did. We scored inside a minute and it was 2-0 inside seven minutes.

“I like Bridon - I wouldn’t say we were comfortable - but we had a good bench and were able to keep everyone ticking over.”
