Mickey Doyle says players and management need to look at themselves after Lydd’s worst performance of the season.

A 1-0 defeat at Meridian last Saturday saw the Lydders knocked off top spot in Southern Counties East Division 1.

The display concerned Doyle, whose side have suffered a mini-slump in recent weeks.

Having dropped to fifth, albeit only a point behind new leaders Larkfield & New Hythe, they’re out to get back on track at Lewisham Borough this Saturday.

“It was probably our worst performance of the season,” said boss Doyle.

“We didn’t turn up and we deserved to lose.

“We’ve all got to look at ourselves - me and the coaching team, and the players - because the club expect better. We’ve challenged the lads and they’ve challenged us.

“We’re all trying to work towards a solution to turn things around, which we will, but we want to do it sooner rather than later.

“Every team will have a spell like this at some point.

“We’ve got to make sure we turn up against Lewisham.

“It’s a tight pitch, so we’ll need to adjust our game a little bit, but we have to be firing on all cylinders and be more ruthless in the final third.

“We’ve been a bit toothless in the last couple of games - we need to sharpen the pencil.

“We’ve got the players but not everything goes to plan at this level. We need Plan A, Plan B and even Plan C.”

Lydd have signed forward Tyrell Mitford from Canterbury and young Whitstable midfielder Billy Robins.

Doyle said: “We’ve been after a No.9 or a No.10, with Ryan Philpott out injured.

“Tyrell’s been on our radar for a while.

“Billy’s another player we’ve got in to boost the squad and there could be one or two more.”
