Scott Porter will have no issue celebrating if Lydd Town score against his old club.

Porter faces Hollands & Blair at the Lindsey Field on Saturday (3pm), just a few weeks after leaving to take charge of the Lydders.

He retains great affection for Blair, a club he led to Challenge Cup success last season, and was back at Star Meadow last weekend to watch their 3-1 defeat by Punjab in Southern Counties East.

But he’s Lydd’s manager now and won’t be following the lead of Premier League footballers, like Richarlison and Declan Rice, who have refused to celebrate goals against former clubs in recent weeks.

“They see it as respect, I suppose, but it’s a lack of respect for the team you’re playing for, that’s paying your wages,” said Porter. “That’s how I look at it.

“I’m a very passionate manager and whoever we score against, I’ll show the same emotions all the way through because I want to win football matches. It’s as simple as that.

“I’m the Lydd manager, I want what’s best for Lydd to be able to push on and I’ll do everything I possibly can to make that happen on Saturday.

“My aim is to beat Blair because we need to get on a run now.”

Lydd’s postponement at Rusthall gave Porter and assistant manager Mark Lane the chance to watch Blair under new boss Luke Jessop.

They conceded three goals in a 10-minute spell before ex-Lydd striker Richard Atkins replied from the penalty spot.

“Things have changed since I left,” said Porter.

“The manager has his own ideas, which is normal, and the personnel is different.

“It’s a great club and it was nice to go back and have a few beers with the old boys.

“I had great times there but my focus is 110% on Lydd and we’ve got to be at our best to win the game.

“They’ll be fired up coming here, of course they will, because they’re playing their ex-manager pretty quickly and some of them might feel they have a point to prove.”

Lydd have signed midfielder Jamal Lubanga on a month’s loan from Isthmian Premier Hastings.

He made his debut in a goalless draw at Lordswood last Tuesday - Lydd’s first clean sheet since the end of November.

“We’ve got to build on that,” said Porter. “My teams have to be good in both boxes.

“It’s OK being good going forward but you’ve got to be defensively strong.

“The more clean sheets you get, the more chance you’ve got of winning games.”
