Simply Gifted in Sandwich calls for artists to showcase their work in the shop

08:00, 23 September 2014

A gift shop in Sandwich is calling on all artists and craftsmen in the town to showcase their work there.

Simply Gifted, 6 St Peter’s Street, sells handmade and Fairtrade gifts, home furnishings and collectables.

Owner Emma Kerans opened the shop in June this year after moving to Sandwich two years ago to be closer to family in Ramsgate.

As the shop has developed, she has been working with two Sandwich artists, Nicola Willis and Jill Hughes-Wilson.

Jill creates hand-stitched shoelaces, tea cosies and handbags and Nicole is a budding photographer studying at the University of Chichester in Bognor Regis.

She takes pictures of the historic buildings and interesting wildlife in Sandwich and sells the prints as postcards at Simply Gifted.

Mrs Kerans added: “There’s so many artists and crafts people around, it would be great for Sandwich to show how talented it is.

“Jill makes shoelaces, the concentration you need to do that and the detail is amazing.”

Mrs Kerans would now like other artists to get in touch for the chance to have their creations sold in the shop, or their art work exhibited.

From bespoke jewellery to painting and prints, she hopes to showcase the very best of Sandwich talent.

Simply Gifted is also raising money for the charity Scope, with a fundraising fortune-telling day on Saturday, September 27.

Fortune teller Miranda Jane Dunn will give a free reading of tea leaves for customers and refreshments will be available.

Readings will start at 10.30am till 2pm.

There will also be a charity raffle with the chance to win an owl cushion, with all proceeds going to the charity which helps people with disabilities to give them the same opportunities as everyone else.
