Sandwich Arts Week kicked off last Saturday and continues this weekend with artists showcasing their work at various locations throughout the town.

This is the first year the event has taken place and so far has proved a great success.

Some of the artists which are exhibiting include Andrew Baldwin whose sculpture entitled The Foghorn can be found outside the Red Cow pub, Moat Sole.

Others will include Bob Martin showcasing his oil paintings at The Sandwich Shop in Cattle Market and Donna Fleming and her sculpture at Rose and Tony’s.

Sue Manton’s paintings will be at The Market Inn, and Sandwich’s very own potter Lawrence Uttley will also be showing his work at Balloons R Us in King Street.

The Empire Cinema, Delf Street, has also been taking part and showed Lust For Life, the film following Vincent Van Gogh’s life on Tuesday evening. Tonight there will be a showing of Camille Claudel which details the French sculptor’s life.

Tickets will be £5 and performances will start at 7.30pm.

Two artists will also be exhibiting at the Empire, Nick Matthews will showcase his photography and Dave Bachelor his artwork.

There will also be plenty of other exhibitions throughout the town and leaflets with all the information can be obtained from St Peter’s Church where an overview display of all artists involved will be on show.

Sandwich Arts Week started on Saturday, September 20 and will continue till Sunday, September 28.

It has been funded by Sandwich Community Events Association and The Sandwich Shop.
