A Sandwich youth centre has been recognised for having the best Community Centre toilets in England.

The Phoenix Centre picked up the gong along with a National Eco Friendly Toilet Award at the Loo of The Year Awards.

The competition carries out unannounced visits in its search to find the best ‘away from home’ washrooms in the UK.

Judges consider 101 criteria including signs, décor, cleanliness and management.

It makes the hub in Jubilee Road the only place to have achieved the high environmental accolade twice, both in 2011 and 2019.

The centre - which has won Loo of the Year awards every year since 2009 - has also maintained its platinum standards across the board.
