Council gritter drivers have shown off their questionable singing skills in a video parody of 'Ice Ice Baby'.

The three main stars of the one-minute recording filmed in Sandwich have edited the lyrics to Vanilla Ice's 90s hit to 'We're gritting Kent, Kent baby'.

Calling themselves Da Grittin' Crew, wannabe rap stars Master Gary Gee, MC Archie and MC Vapour tell listeners to 'stop, buckle up and listen'.

They describe themselves as the crew who keep 'Kent's roads clear both day and nightly' while showing off impressive moves like the worm and running man.

It was filmed at the Highways Depot in Sandwich in March but has only been released now ahead of the cold season.

It comes after more than 200 Kent school children took part in a competition to name Kent's gritters.

Ice Ice Baby, which features in the video, was among the winners alongside Eddie BI-Izzard, Spready Mercury, David Plowie, and Usain Salt.

They sing: "Alright stop, buckle up and listen. Ice is back and we're off on our mission.

"Gritting all the stuff hard and whitey. Keeping Kent's roads clear both day and nightly

"Will it ever stop? Yo I don't know. Turn on the lights, let's go.

"Out, till the snows just a memory. Clearing the way till the road's how it should be.

"Ice ice baby. We're gritting Kent, Kent baby. Ice ice baby. We're gritting Kent, Kent baby."

Off the back of the video, Kent County Council (KCC) is taking the opportunity to share its cold weather travelling advice.

In the event of snow and icy conditions, Kent Highways has 23,000 tonnes of salt held in six depots countywide for distribution.

KCC is backed up by 114 farmers who help plough rural routes during extreme snow while parish councils are supplied with one tonne bags of a salt/sand mix for use in rural areas in the county.

Unlike roads, KCC is not responsible for gritting pavements but does provide nearly 3,000 salt bins across the county for use by the public.

In the event of ice and snow, KCC say people should plan ahead and check traffic information and weather reports before starting their journey and only drive if essential when there is heavy snow.

Drivers should also check their tyres as lower treads can cause skidding.
