Objections have been raised to an extension in Sandwich after plans were first submitted as a porch.

Jane Hanks, of Laburnum Avenue, is the next door neighbour to the home which has made the application.

She appeared at the Sandwich Town Council meeting on Monday, March 23, to appeal to the council to support her objection.

She said the plan was originally for a porch and has since changed into a single extension with toilet and basin.

Mrs Hanks said: “My family have been there for more than 27 years and in law we do have some protection. I’m concerned any other extension would negatively impact on the properties.”

She said the application shows no indication of ground works or drainage. She also said it would significantly decrease the light to the front entrance and kitchen window of her property.

Mrs Hanks also raised concerns about the building boundaries and claimed if it impacts on the road, parking spaces could be lost, a violation of planning guidelines. She explained her parents have endured years of home improvement noise from their neighbours and fear the on-going works and the extension could damage to their property.

The council voted to oppose the application saying: “The town council strongly objects to this proposal as it is outside the limits of porch construction; due to loss of light for a neighbour; loss of a parking space, and as it is totally incongruous with the surroundings and will set a precedent.”
