Police are investigating suspicious activity on Facebook after a number of schoolgirls were contacted with inappropriate messages.

The older sister of one of the girls who was messaged by the account said some of the messages asked where her young sister lived, what school she attended and if she would meet them.

The sister said: “The school have been notified and we've contacted the police too. Children need more lessons on internet safety and who they are speaking to online.”

A spokesman for Kent Police said: “I can confirm police have been notified of suspicious activity on Facebook and are investigating.”

Andy Fisher, designated safeguarding co-ordinator at Sandwich Technology School said: "The school takes online safety of students extremely seriously and our E-safety co-ordinator undertakes assemblies to raise whole school awareness.

"E-safety is also embedded within the curriculum provision further protecting students and educating them in the safe use of the internet. The school will fully cooperate with the Police to support their investigations wherever we can."
