Work to repair burst sewer pipes in Sandwich and Ramsgate is to carry on through the night as the disruption that started two days ago continues.

Both lanes of the A256 Sandwich Bypass between Monk's Way and Ramsgate Road were closed on Friday afternoon following the leak.

And a burst pipe also forced Military Road in Ramsgate to be shut.

Contractors from Southern Water have been working through for the last two days to repair both leaks, but the company has not yet revealed when the routes will be reopened.

Southern Water spokesman Lewis Brown said: "Our crews are still working hard to repair bursts to our sewer pipes at both Military Road and Sandwich Road, Ramsgate.

"The bursts and repairs are complex and we have tankers and specialist equipment in the area to assist us.

"We'll be working through the night again and traffic management measures will remain in place. This includes part of the A256 southbound road by Sandwich Road, which will stay closed.

"We're sorry for any inconvenience caused by these emergency works."

The damage is thought to have been caused by heavy rainfall on Thursday and Friday.

This evening, the company tweeted to say the work would continue through the night again.
