New funding prompts relaunch of SpeakUpCIC mental health peer support group in Sandwich
00:03, 24 February 2017
The relaunch of a daytime mental health peer support group in Sandwich is hoped to alert more people to the service.
Members of SpeakUpCIC meet every Tuesday from 10am until 12.30pm at The Phoenix Community Centre in Jubilee Road, Sandwich.
It has been running for a few years but a lack of funding last April threatened its closure.
Grants from The Big Lottery Awards For All scheme and the Kent County Council’s Members’ Fund have now secured its future.
The group is made up of local people who suffer from long term mental health conditions.
The relaunch, attended by KCC Cllr Leyland Ridings, is on Tuesday, February 28, from 10am until 12.30pm with tea and cake.
Anyone who would like to become a member or find out more is invited to attend.
SpeakUpCIC has also launched a weekly daytime support group in Deal.
The group will meet every Friday from 1-3pm at the Golf Road Community Centre.
An eight-week Cognitive Behavioural Therapy course starts in March, aimed to help combat the effects of stress, anxiety and depression.
It is free and delivered by a registered psychotherapist. There will also be creative writing and crafts workshops, forums and social get-togethers.
