A new indoor market is set to bring a boost to Thursdays in Sandwich.

The town already has an established market which sets up on the Guildhall Forecourt.

But from today even more stallholders will descend on the town selling their wares from inside St Peter’s Church.

New market manager Annemarie Huigen said: “We always look to have good reasons for people to visit Sandwich town centre.

“Having a wider range of stalls, some of which have to be indoors to be protected from the weather, makes Thursdays in Sandwich a more attractive proposition.”

Among the traders will be Deborah Woodward selling art work, Roger Stanger selling photography, books by local author Carol Creasey and hand-crafted jewellery by Sweetie Celebration Gems and Rocks.

Produce on sale will include home produced peanut butter by Fire and Roast plus a selection of cakes and savouries.

For the last three years, the outdoor market has been run by the Sandwich Town Community Interest Company.

It means money generated by booking fees can go back into the town for projects such as Sandwich Medieval Centre.

Director Steve Laslett said: “One third of Thursday market profits go to Sandwich Tollbridge Fund, two thirds go to the CIC.

“That means all proceeds benefit Sandwich town.

“We welcome an indoor market which should also bring some new products to the outdoor market on some days.”

The Thursday indoor market starts at 9.30am today.

Interested stall holders should call Annemarie on 07766486155.
