Man taken to London hospital after crash on A257 Roman Road between Wingham and Ash

A man was flown to a London hospital following a crash between a tractor and a lorry.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after the incident on the A257 Roman Road at Wingham at 1.25pm.

It caused a blockage and the busy road connecting Canterbury with Sandwich was closed until after 10pm.

This morning police released an appeal.

A statement from the force said: "It is understood that both vehicles were travelling in the same direction, heading towards Wingham, when the incident took place just outside the turning for a farm shop near Shatterling.

"The driver of the tractor, a man in his late 40s, suffered a serious head injury and was taken to a London hospital for treatment where he remains in a critical condition."

The incident happened outside a farm shop and involved a white Scania truck and a Massey Ferguson tractor.

Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are urging any witnesses to come forward with information.
