King's Head and Walmer Castle in charity football match for Martha Trust

12:40, 10 May 2017

There was a lot at stake for two pubs in Deal who went head to head in a charity football match.

Regulars and staff members from the King’s Head and the Walmer Castle battled it out at the Charles Ground last Sunday, in a bid for glory.

But there could only be one winner, with the final score 7-5 to the King’s Head whose captain Pete Cory said: “It was a really great effort by both teams and it’s great to support charities with any fundraising that we can.

“The King’s Head had to fight the last 10 minutes with 10 men as Scott Jackson playing for us got sent off for a needless challenge.

“He will never live this one down!”

It was organised by Stewart Brown who is the resident DJ in both pubs. It raised more than £200 to be split between Martha Trust who provide care the people with profound disabilities and Action for AT who fund research into ataxia telangiectasia, a rare genetic degenerative childhood disease.

It is a milestone year for us, being our 30th birthday, and we would love to engage with and support as many people as possible with fundraising.”
