Sandwich celebrates twinning with US Massachusetts town
00:01, 09 May 2014
Sandwich is celebrating twinning with Sandwich in Massachusetts this June and aims to send the town messages of greetings.
As the USA town celebrates its 375th anniversary, the two councils have been in contact to arrange the twinning.
Members of the Bringing Alive Sandwich Heritage group, pictured above, will be manning a stall at the Sandwich Food Fayre this weekend to generate interest.
Part of the project is Messages to Massachusetts, which will see people of all ages gathering greetings, images, photographs, pinterest collages and other mementos to send from Kent’s historic town to its American cousins.
The stall will feature a post box to send messages of greetings.
Following the food fayre, the Messages to Massachusetts post box will appear at key locations in the town, including the Guildhall and the Phoenix Centre.
Messages will be collected in the run-up to the signing of the twinning charter on June 21.
