A Sandwich head teacher says she is proud of the school’s team effort after it was rated good in all categories by Ofsted.
Sandwich Technology School was inspected on Wednesday and Thursday, July 1 and 2.
The report, which was published on Tuesday, July 21, praised teaching, the behaviour of pupils, good links with parents, management, achievement and much more.
Head teacher Tracey Savage said: “We are thrilled with this outcome as it's nice to have external experts confirm what we know to be true of our school – we are providing a good service to the local community in all of the key areas. Ofsted clearly agrees with the school governors and leadership about what we need to improve even further and all members of the school are now ready to take on the challenge of moving towards outstanding.”
The report states that all leaders and staff share Mrs Savage’s vision for the school.
It says: “The streamlining of the senior leadership team has redefined roles and responsibilities so that raising achievement and monitoring students’ progress are at the heart of leadership. Despite this major reorganisation, staff morale has remained high.”
Ofsted’s verdict is backing for the school’s controversial decision to make five members of staff redundant in April this year.
The report goes on to say that teaching does not always challenge the most able pupils and marking is not always consistent enough to help them improve their work.
It says pupils start Sandwich Technology School with attainment well below the national average but then make good progress across nearly all subjects.
The sixth form provision is good, and teachers know their pupils well which is reflected in their attitude towards staff.
Mrs Savage said: “I am very proud to be the head teacher of this fantastic school, but really this superb result is down to the hard work and commitment of all its members who pull out all the stops on a daily basis.
“I am pleased that they have had their efforts acknowledged and recognised in this way.”
