A schoolgirl who spends hours each day volunteering with several charities was yesterday named the final Kent Hero.
Victoria Day received more nominations than anyone else in the search for Kent Heroes, mounted by kmfm and Kent Reliance.
Just one of the nominations reads: “Victoria Day spends the majority of her free time volunteering for the Red Cross and the local ambulance service, as well as working in a residential home for people with Dementia and Alzheimer’s.
"She spends hours and hours every week doing this, all while she was doing her A-Levels.
"A typical day for Victoria is volunteering from 5am to 8.30am at the residential home, then school from 9am to 3.30 or 4.30pm, then back to work again after school.
"I honestly feel that Victoria deserves this award for all the times she has helped people before herself and she rarely gets recognition for it.
"This award will be a great way to show her that she is appreciated.”
Victoria was asked by a friend to wait in at home on Friday for a ‘parcel’, which ended up being Rob Wills from kmfm drivetime.
Over five weeks, listeners were invited to nominate friends, family or people they knew.
Kmfm received 100s of nominations for incredible people right the way across Kent via phone, email and handwritten nominations in Kent Reliance branches.
The judging panel, consisted of the kmfm and Kent Reliance team, who listened and read through every nomination.
Each winner received a trophy as well as £500 cash to give themselves a well-deserved treat.
