Thefts, burglaries, shoplifting and dangerous dogs were some of the crimes reported in Sandwich from February to April.

Crimes recorded between April 2014 and March 2015 show a decrease of one crime.

From February 13 to April 23 there were four burglaries – one at a house – seven thefts, one attempted theft, two thefts of cycles and two of vehicles.

There were four thefts from vehicles, nine shoplifting crimes, two attempted shoplifting, five criminal damages and two incidents where a dog, out of control, caused injury.

Guy Thompson, community safety inspector for the Dover district, said an arrest had been made for a vehicle theft.

He said: “In some cases we have found that doors have been left unlocked and the opportunist will take that moment. We do have regular patrols that go out to Sandwich. I would say it’s nothing out of the ordinary.”

Inspector Thompson said the law had changed for the two crimes involving a dangerous dog out of control.

This means that it is now enforceable in private as well as public.

During the same period there were reports regarding nuisance vehicles in Monks Way. Discovery Park security is contacted when this occurs and said their CCTV showed no vehicles at that time.

There were also calls regarding “the local vagrant in town” which is being dealt with.

There was a total of 25 crimes reported in February 2015 as opposed to 36 in the same month last year.
