00:06, 11 May 2017
From chilli and cheese to fruit and fizz, foodies will rejoice at the selection of delights on offer at this year’s Sandwich Food Fayre.
The annual festival will return to the Guildhall Forecourt, Market Street and St Peter’s Gardens for its sixth year on Saturday and Sunday.
There will be plenty of choice with more than 55 stalls taking part offering produce from Kent as well as international dishes.
Organiser Veronica Liote said: “We have all our favourites plus some new and exciting ones to discover.
“This event has become so well known that traders come from all over Kent and even from the famous Borough Market in London to participate.
“Of course, we don’t forget our local shops with yummy cakes from Scrumalicious and fabulous bread from Baps and Bloomers.
“We are particularly proud of Danielle Usherwood from Baps and Bloomers who has been named Taste of Kent Young Entrepreneur of the Year.
“Other award winners include Stour Valley Game, Kentish Pip and Biddenden Vineyards.”
Also represented this year will be the prestigious Salutation.
Their new restaurant will be opening soon and chef Shane Hughes will be giving the people of Sandwich a taste of things to come.
Mr Hughes has held roles at several highly acclaimed British establishments including the Connaught with Michel Bourdin.
He also spent seven years at Ynyshir Hall in Powys, Wales, where he achieved a Michelin star as head chef. To top it off, there will be live music from various visiting artists adding to the festival atmosphere.
The Food Fayre will be from 9am to 5pm on Saturday and from 10am to 4pm on Sunday.
As part of it St Peter’s Church is holding a Victoria sandwich cake competition. To enter, call Val on 07392 0080885.
