Festive fever will arrive in Sandwich tomorrow with fun for all the family.

Entertainment begins at 10am with hot food and drink stalls plus a funfair behind the Guildhall.

Live music will begin at 2pm with a performance from The Rock Choir followed by Hollie Firmin at 3pm, the Bettesteiner Footstompers at 4pm and Ozzie and the Uglies at 5pm.

There’s also a chance to sing carols inside Sandwich United Reformed Church in Cattle Market from 3pm until 4pm.

At 6pm, a parade will commence through the streets starting from the back of the Guildhall. It features carnival courts from around the coast and the Bloco Foggo Samba Band.

Families will then gather on the Forecourt for the light’s switch on at 7pm.

Three of the town’s unsung heroes have been selected for the honour.

They are former mayor Simon Leith, civic award recipient and retired road sweeper Ted Smith and artist and volunteer Jan Cooper.

Event organiser Siobhan Matthews said: “We’ve chosen three local heroes to turn the lights on this year. They all do a lot for our town but don’t always get the recognition.”

The day’s events will draw to a close with the annual boat parade, immediately after, at the Quay. At least five vessels, decorated with lights, will be taking part.
