A bus crashed into the level crossing barrier near Sandwich station yesterday (Friday) at around 1.30pm.

The number 14 bus caused damage to the gates, meaning that they became stuck in the locked down position.

This caused severe delays to traffic in and around New Street.

Kent Police were on the scene to monitor traffic especially as the school's closed.

A spokesman said: "Network Rail are managing the situation. I believe they are manually operating the barrier until it is repaired."

Network Rail was contacted for an update.
