The book is now available to buy and the couple appeared at Waterstone’s at Bluewater on Saturday to meet their fans and sign copies of the book.

Mr Parker said: “It’s slightly autobiographical tales of how we’ve dealt with things and how we’ve sometimes messed them up, it’s life lessons that we’ve learned the hard way.”

Mrs Parker described the book as “tales of the unexpected” such as how to make an Irish coffee without having a mental breakdown and how to grow old together while still having fun.

“They also give advice on style, other alcoholic beverages, entertaining, and marriage.

She said: “I hope they enjoy it and it’s said with humour and with old age knowledge if you like.

“I hope they take from it that actually you can still have a fantastic relationship even though you’re 19 years down the road, and 17 years of marriage.

The couple explained they have learned most of their wisdom by accident but now they would like to share it with readers.

Mr Parker said: “Anyone who reads it will have a damned good laugh with it.

“There are some very funny tales and lessons from things we have either done or seen happen through our very eyes, that have turned out to be very humorous and will give Kentish people, as well as other people in the country, some idea of the pitfalls to avoid.”

Speaking of their rise to fame on the Channel 4 show which saw them become a hit with audiences Mrs Parker said: “It’s extraordinary and every day we walk this road is more extraordinary than the other.

“It’s very humbling and very flattering that people even want to listen to what we have to say.”

Mrs Parker said she hoped the guide would inspire others.

She said: “We also want them to take from it, the fact that we are neighbours in Kent, and we are ordinary people in fairness, that have had some extraordinary things happen to them.”

Steph and Dom’s Guide to Life is published by Hodder & Stoughton RRP and costs £14.99.
