Sandwich to strengthen twinning link with German town Sonsbeck despite Brexit
00:01, 05 February 2019
Brexit won't break the friendship between Sandwich and Sonsbeck as the twinning association moves forward with plans for its annual visit.
The link between the two towns has existed for more than 34 years.
This summer, it is members' turn to travel to the German town near Düsseldorf for a three-day break and anyone interested in joining is welcome to get in touch.
Leaving from the Quayside on Thursday, May 30 and returning on Sunday, June 2, they will stay with their host families, enjoying trips out to the Cathedral City of Aachen, a city tour by coach and a small walking tour.
Johanna Westwood said: "On Saturday we will meet up very informally and play our traditional game of Bat and Trap.
"Unfortunately we lost the cup last year, but hope to win it back this year.
"Weather permitting, we will have our usual picnic breakfast. This is really the most leisurely part of the trip and gives everyone the opportunity to get to know each other.
"The day ends with a party organised by our hosts and sitting down to a splendid dinner."
The group will depart on Sunday morning and travel back to Sandwich, via ferry.
