A man has been arrested after a county lines drug bust.

More than 70 wraps of suspected heroin and crack cocaine were discovered by officers in a door pocket when they stopped a Volkswagen Polo in Westerham Road, Riverhead.

Drugs were also found in clumps in the centre console of the car and police say the total haul is the equivalent of more than 100 street deals.

Almost £600 was also found.

The vehicle was searched shortly before 2pm yesterday, following reports of suspicious activity.

Police subsequently arrested the driver, a 36-year-old man from Battersea, London.

He was arrested on suspicion of possessing Class A drugs with intent to supply. Police then searched the suspect's home address where items including two sets of electric scales were taken away for analysis.

Kent Police has dedicated teams committed to tackling emerging criminal gangs, who often travel from areas such as London to extend their drug dealing activity across county boundaries - known as a running a 'county line'.

Det Sgt James Arnold, of the Operation Raptor Gangs Targeting Team said: 'We are working relentlessly to identity and tackle individuals associated with the supply of drugs into our communities and are dedicated to removing the county lines networks which cause so much harm. Please remember, we also continue to need your help, so always report any suspicious behaviour. By continuing to work together we not only ensure Kent remains a safe place to live but we are getting the message through to criminals that there is no hiding place from the law.'

The suspect has been bailed pending further enquires to return to a police station on July 4.
