A £70,000 scheme to lay a new water main in a Kent town will see temporary lights in place along a main road.

The new pipe will improve the capacity of the distribution network in Sevenoaks, and will ensure pressure is maintained as the community grows.

This work is part of a five-year £424 million investment programme by South East Water.

The water provider will install the 294m section of pipeline along London Road in Dunton Green, starting on Monday, September 11.

The project is expected to take seven weeks to complete.

Temporary traffic lights will be in place between Glyn Davies Close and Milton Road whilst works are going on.

Matthew Cooper, project manager at South East Water, said: "We understand how inconvenient engineering work is to local people, but know that residents will appreciate the long term benefits of a new water main, which will guarantee future supplies of top quality drinking water as the community expands.

"The safety of road users and our workers is our top priority so traffic management measures will be in place to allow us to carry out the work as quickly and safely as possible.

"Bus services in the area will continue to operate throughout the work, but we would advise bus passengers and other road users to allow extra time for their journeys."
