Bomb squad called after dog walker finds smoke mortar in Sevenoaks

A bomb squad was called to Sevenoaks today after a dog walker discovered an artillery weapon.
It was found at around 2.55pm near Nightingale Lane, Ide Hill.
Kent Police alerted the Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team who attended and identified the item as a ‘smoke mortar’, an explosive shell which is launched out of a metal tube.
It was safely removed for later disposal.
The area has now been declared safe and the incident closed down.
