Dishwasher sets fire in Penshurst
11:40, 09 January 2018
Firefighters descended on a Penshurst home on Monday after a fire broke out in its kitchen.
Two fire engines were sent to Penshurst Road just after 7pm after a dishwasher caught alight.
Inside, the resident had tried to put out the flames with the help of a neighbour using a dry powder extinguisher.
Together the pair left the property, closing the door behind them to stop the fire spreading.
On arrival, firefighters used a hose reel jet to put out the remainder of the fire, using a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear smoke from the house.
The dishwasher and kitchen worktop were destroyed in the blaze.
Crews left the scene at 7.53pm.
