Police seized drugs including MDMA and cannabis during a town's Christmas lights switch-on.
Extra patrols had been laid on after rumours swept social media of planned fights and even an acid attack at the event in Sevenoaks town centre.
Trouble had also broken out at a previous fireworks event.
Some schools in the area had sent emails home to parents warning of planned incidents at the Christmas event.
One, seen by KentOnline, said: "We have been aware of rumours, not substantiated with any evidence at this stage, of potential planned fights between groups of youths from Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge and Sevenoaks during the Christmas lights event.
"There has allegedly been mention of fighting, knives and a possible acid attack.
"After careful consideration we felt we needed to make you aware of these rumours should you or any of your children be planning to attend this event.
"Tutors have spoken to tutees regarding general advice about how to stay safe during an event such as this."
A police spokesman said: "Additional search and dispersal powers were in force; which were utilised by police. Alcohol, Cannabis and MDMA were seized."
The event on Friday night in the High Street included fairground rides and stalls.
The switch-on was performed by the cast of the town's panto, Aladdin.
