A pooch who has lived at an Edenbridge rescue centre for a decade has found a new home - after her story went global.

Despite getting offers from as far as The United States and Australia, Bess has settled in the south coast of England.

In February, volunteers at Last Chance Animal Rescue appealed for canine lovers to come forward and give Bess a home for her twilight years.

Hundreds of people stepped up, with staff whittling their options down until just one remained.

A spokesman for the Hatfield Road Centre, said: "Great care was taken by our staff to find the perfect home for Bess.

"Her new owners made many visits to the centre to allow Bess to slowly get to know them. Everyone at Last Chance loved Bess and wanted to make sure we found the best home for her.

"Bess is not the easiest of dogs and is very set in her ways, hence the amount of time she has been with us, so we still have all fingers crossed that this will be her forever home, so say a prayer."

"It was very emotional for everyone as she set off to her new life, but also very rewarding, as a loving home is what we want for all our dogs, and finally we have one for our Bess. Thank you to everyone who offered Bess a home."
