Two leisure centres which shut unexpectedly have reopened today with a new operator and special Olympic guests Kate French MBE and Joe Choong.
Edenbridge and Sevenoaks Leisure Centres and Lullingstone Park Golf Course were forced to close in March after Sencio – the firm which ran them – went into liquidation.
After its closure, the swimming group Edenbridge Piranhas, who used the leisure centre in Edenbridge for nearly 30 years, was without access to a pool.
But all was not lost because at the beginning of last month, a budget of almost £2 million was approved to help reopen the three facilities.
Sevenoaks District Council also confirmed a deal with national firm, Everyone Active, who agreed to take on the leases of Edenbridge and Sevenoaks Leisure Centres and Lullingstone Park Golf Course.
An Everyone Active spokesman said: “Today’s the day! We are so excited to welcome you all back!
“The pool at Edenbridge Leisure Centre and Sevenoaks Leisure Centre has welcomed back the first swimmers since reopening.
“And a spin class was our first group exercise class since reopening the Sevenoaks facilities.
“It is great to see so many people bright and early on a Bank Holiday Monday.”
Until 8pm tonight a community open day is being hosted at both of the facilities.
The spokesman contiued: “We will be hosting a range of free activities, so there is sure to be something suitable for everyone.”
Activities avaliable today include bookable gym sessions, group exercise taster sessions, bookable swimming sessions including lane swimming, family fun and general swimming, a feel good suite (Edenbridge Only), sports hall activities and sports club taster sessions, face painting, balloon modeling and more.

Hasan Romel, area contract manager at Everyone Active, said: “We’re hugely excited to be welcoming the local community back into Edenbridge Leisure Centre and Sevenoaks Leisure Centre today, following the successful re-opening of Lullingstone Park Golf Course last weekend.
“Alongside Sevenoaks District Council, the health and wellbeing of the local community is our top priority so we’re really keen to offer individuals of all ages and abilities an opportunity to get active.
“Today’s open days at both Edenbridge Leisure Centre and Sevenoaks Leisure Centre will be a great way for new and prospective members to visit the centres and trial the wide variety of activities available.”
