A disabled 92-year-old woman has been burgled by a man she allowed into her Otford home.

Jewellery - including a diamond engagement ring and a gold locket - was stolen from the pensioner's Telston Lane home.

The victim, who police said sometimes gets confused, opened the door after someone pressed the buzzer between 1pm and 1.20pm on Tuesday, July 22.

She uses a wheelchair and remembers a man walking inside and speaking to her. As she was sat in another room, he entered her bedroom and rifled through her belongings.

After the man left, the victim then noticed jewellery was missing.

A gold sovereign on a chain, silver charm bracelet and watches were among other items taken.

Police are now urging anyone with information to come forward.

PC Patrick McCartansaid: "We believe that at least one person has entered the victim's bedroom whilst she was sitting in another room and stolen a number of items, some of which are of enormous sentimental value.

"We are particularly keen to speak to a man and a woman, both aged between 25 and 30, who are reported to have been seen in the area previously and who have been asking residents to donate money for charity."

PC McCartan added: "It is important for residents to remember that although this type of crime is still very rare by taking a few simple measures you can protect your home.

"We would urge all house holders to double check that properties are secure and windows shut and not to allow anyone in their home who calls without invitation."
