A crash involving a lorry and a car on the M25 resulted in several miles of queues.
The accident happened on the clockwise carriageway near Clacket Lane Services just before 6.30am.
Initially, two lanes had to be closed and the resulting queues stretched back beyond Junction 5 for Sevenoaks.
At 7.09am, National Highways tweeted to say there were queues of eight-and-a-half miles.
Reports suggested that as of 7.40am, the closure was down to just one lane, then by 8am all lanes had reopened, but traffic was still facing delays of up to an hour and a half.
By 9am the queues had cleared.
It is understood a broken down car on the inside lane in the queues added to the delays.
