Sevenoaks‌ ‌Larder‌, the town's ‌food bank, has collected 1.2 tonnes of food for the needy in just three days after a donation‌ ‌drive‌ ‌over‌ ‌the‌ ‌Easter‌ ‌Weekend‌ ‌at‌ ‌the‌ ‌Tesco store‌ ‌in‌ ‌Riverhead.‌

Larder volunteers‌ ‌braved‌ ‌the‌ ‌chilly‌ ‌weather‌ ‌to‌ ‌hand‌ ‌out‌ ‌the‌ ‌food‌ ‌bank’s donation‌ ‌wish‌ ‌list‌ to shoppers as they entered the store and‌ ‌customers‌ ‌responded very generously‌ .

Sevenoaks‌ ‌Larder ‌trustee‌ ‌Gordon‌ ‌Lee‌ ‌said:‌ ‌"We‌ ‌can’t‌ ‌thank‌ ‌Tesco‌ ‌enough‌ ‌–‌ ‌they‌ ‌have‌ ‌been‌ ‌incredibly‌ ‌supportive.

"They not‌ ‌only‌ ‌had a permanent‌ ‌food‌ ‌donation‌ ‌bin‌ ‌in‌ ‌store‌ ‌for‌ ‌us‌, ‌but‌ ‌also‌ ‌donate ‌surplus‌ ‌food‌ ‌to‌ ‌us‌ ‌twice‌ ‌a week.”‌

Claire‌ ‌Ritchie,‌ ‌chair‌ ‌of‌ ‌the‌ ‌trustees,‌ ‌said:‌ ‌"The‌ ‌people‌ ‌of‌ ‌Sevenoaks‌ ‌have‌ ‌always‌ ‌been‌ ‌so‌ ‌incredibly‌ ‌supportive‌.

"‌Hopefully soon with the easing‌ ‌of‌ ‌lockdown,‌ ‌many‌ ‌of‌ ‌our‌ ‌clients‌ ‌will‌ ‌be‌ ‌able‌ ‌to‌ ‌get‌ ‌back‌ ‌to‌ ‌work‌ ‌and‌ ‌back‌ ‌on‌ ‌their feet‌.

"But,‌ ‌in‌ ‌the‌ ‌meantime‌ ‌and‌ ‌for‌ ‌those‌ ‌clients‌ ‌who‌ ‌are‌ ‌unable‌ ‌to‌ ‌do‌ ‌so,‌ there‌ ‌is‌ ‌still‌ ‌a‌ huge need and we are very‌ ‌grateful‌ ‌to‌ ‌all‌ ‌those‌ ‌who‌ ‌enable‌ ‌us‌ ‌to‌ ‌offer‌ ‌a‌ ‌helping‌ ‌hand‌ ‌to‌ ‌them.”‌
