A suspect is alleged to have threatened firefighters with a hammer after a late-night disturbance which left a woman in hospital.
Police and the fire service were called to a property in Edenbridge at around 12.30am yesterday following reports a woman had been assaulted.
It is alleged Daniel Rutter then smashed a number of windows before starting the fire at the address in Wellingtonia Way.
Emergency services arrived to find the suspect holding a hammer and were reportedly threatened by him before he was detained and taken into custody.
The 48-year-old, from Wellingtonia Way, was later charged with arson, assault by beating, criminal damage and three counts of assaulting an emergency worker.
Meanwhile the woman was taken to a local hospital for medical attention.
Mr Rutter was remanded in custody to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court today.
