Some of Kent's pubs and breweries have been branded the best in Britain by the Good Beer Guide 2015, which was published today.
The Good Beer Guide includes a list of the 16 regional finalists of CAMRA's (Campaign for Real Ale) Pub of the Year competition, in which The Windmill in Sevenoaks Weald was included.
The 16 competitors will now go forward and have a chance to win the National Pub of the Year competition. Each pub is judged on its atmosphere, decor, welcome, service, value for money, but most importantly - quality of beer.
The The Windmill was described in the Beer Guide as having a "homely interior with wooden settles, a log-burning stove, etched windows, porcelain and pub memorabilia, while a quiet, colourful garden is available for warmer times."
The Good Beer Guide’s Editor, Roger Protz said: "Being named as one the top 16 pubs in the UK is a huge honour that each of these pubs should be hugely proud of.
"These pubs have won their branch’s Pub of the Year, then gone on to win the regional competition, and now have a chance of being crowned National Pub of the Year – making every one of them a winner in their own right."
The pub was judged against numerous other local branch winners and was deemed to be the best in the region overall.
Four new breweries in Kent will also feature in the Good Beer Guide for 2015:
- Maidstone Brewing Co. - London Road, Maidstone
- Pig & Porter - Tunbridge Wells
- Musket Brewery - Linton
- Time and Tide - East Walmer
The annual guide also gives details of the various beers brewed in the region, such as Fife and Drum by Musket, Red Spider by Pig & Porter and Calista IPA by Time & Tide.
Roger Protz added: "It’s fantastic to see a continued growth in local brewing which has been encouraged by an increased interest in local ales.
"The overall brewery number has been heavily contributed to by small breweries which have been popping up across the country. It’s welcome news for ale lovers as more breweries means more choice.”
In total the Kent region had 147 pubs listed in the guide.
