Kent's only contestant in this year's The Apprentice competition has been fired.

JD O'Brien from Sevenoaks was sacked in last night's show, the fifth week of the competition.

The 37-year-old, who runs beach clothing company Munkie, was project manager on the task, and came under heavy criticism.

Lord Sugar challenged the candidates to help two entrepreneurs launch their cycling product, with the teams designing a marketing campaign to help crowdfund for the venture.

But the Sevenoaks businessman came a cropper when he chose to take sub-project manager Paul and team member Rebecca into the boardroom.

Lord Sugar, aided by Karren Brady and Claude Littner, decided it was a mistake for Mr O'Brien to bring these two in.

Although Kent's only hope in the competition said he admits when he makes mistakes and holds his hands up, this did not wash with the billionaire tycoon.

"You have admitted mistakes, I wonder whether there's another mistake by bringing Paul back instead of Sofiane," he said.

"But it's not difficult for me today to consider that you have admitted you are responsible for the failure of this task JD, and that's all you have done today is admit your mistakes. It's something I cannot ignore. JD, you're fired."
