Mike Conway begins the new GP2 season in Barcelona this weekend in what he believes will be a big year in his racing career.

The Sevenoaks racer endured a stop-start rookie season in 2007 but is back with a new team and a hunger to make a name for himself.

"This year is a big year, no mistakes at all," said the 24-year-old. "I want to score in every round and race, and if I do that, then I should easily be top two.

"I had a lot of ups and downs last season and it was quite a change from F3 to GP2. I learnt a lot about myself, the car and the team and how things work and it was a big change. I have to work a lot harder this year."

Conway’s best finish in 2007 was a second at Silverstone but the season was littered with mechanical problems and race incidents which hampered his season.

He teams up with Trident Racing for this season’s 10-round GP2 series.

"I’m counting down the days until Barcelona. I know the circuits this year and there’s no reason I can’t be up there."

Conway was selected for the Honda Young Driver Programme and he’s making full use of their input.

He said: "They are always checking I’m going okay and they want me to win as well.

"They know I can go quick in their F1 car and they want to see me do that in GP2 and it’s nice for me to have them there to help me.

"GP2 is where all the drivers are coming from and they are all up there doing a good job. You know that if you can win in GP2 then there’s no reason why you can’t do that in F1."
