Anton Matusevich reigned supreme once again at the UK Pro League but insists there are still plenty of improvements to be made to his tennis.

Sevenoaks’ Matusevich is just 19 but is constantly proving himself to be up there with Britain’s best after winning Week 3 of the tournament in Loughborough.

He did so in style too – winning all five of his pool games, and then the semi-final and final, without even dropping a set at the Dan Maskell Tennis Centre.

That came to a thrilling conclusion with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Henry Patten, holding his own in the first set before pulling clear in the second to win 14 sets from a possible 14.

“I was very happy the way I played, I thought I played quite at home out here and was playing better tennis than in the second week,” he said.

“Congratulations to Henry in making the final, that’s a great achievement.

“It was awesome, I’ve really enjoyed it here.”

The season-long competition involves players competing in a round robin format in eight individual qualifying weeks, with the weekend play-offs then giving them the opportunity to accumulate ranking points to seal qualification for November’s Finals Week.

Matusevich claimed a third-place finish in Week 1 of the competition to rack up 12 ranking points and a maximum haul of 18 in Weeks 2 and 3 has catapulted him up the table.

But it’s all eyes on the future for a talent who has a forehand unrivalled and a serve improving with each passing week.

His physical game is in great shape but it’s between the ears where his focus is now heading.

“Week 1, you’re panicking a little bit, as top seed having not played in these events before,” he added.

“There was less panicking, less talking for me, I was a bit more calm and composed and stopped thinking about the scoreline.

“I turn 20 next month – it’s scary getting older, I don’t want to do that. Maturity is definitely something I want to work on, getting mentally solid.”
