A number of staff at an Aldi food distribution centre have tested positive for coronavirus.

In total, four workers from the site in Neats Court in Queenborough, Sheppey, have Covid-19, while a further 12 have been told to isolate since the news came out on Friday.

It was initially thought there were up to 20 people who were being told to isolate after an anonymous worker came forward about the situation.

They said: “It’s disgusting it’s not been shut down yet. I’ve got children and friends who are high risk.

“People have been threatening to walk out, but I can’t do that as I need this job.

“There’s not even been a proper clean at the site, I don’t think it’s safe to work there.”

However, the supermarket giant “fundamentally” denies this.

"The entire site has been thoroughly cleaned and we have measures in place to ensure everyone’s safety..."

A spokesman said: “Of the 500 colleagues at our Sheppey distribution centre, four have tested positive for Covid-19 and are currently self-isolating as per the government guidelines.

"A further 12 are self-isolating as a precaution.

"The entire site has been thoroughly cleaned and we have measures in place to ensure everyone’s safety, including antibacterial cleaning stations, social distancing policies and weekly hygiene and safety audits.”
